    What subjects/courses do you provide?

    We provide 42 courses aligned with the SQA curriculum covering a range of STEM, Language and Business subjects across National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher.

    How and when do I get my login details?

    Scholar enrolment data is refreshed on an annual basis. Teachers and lecturers will receive an email notification when they are enrolled with Scholar. For teachers with a Glow account, our video 'Scholar Access Through Glow For Teachers' demonstrates how easily teachers can link their Glow and Scholar accounts to allow quick, easy access to our e-learning platform from within Glow. Teachers can obtain a reminder of their Scholar account details using the 'Forgotten Password' feature, or from the Scholar contact at their school or college. Students can use their Glow account to access Scholar without the need for a separate username or password. The video 'Scholar Access Through Glow' shows this simple method in use. Students can also access Scholar from scholar.hw.ac.uk using account details provided by their school or college. The video 'Scholar Access Without Using Glow' provides further information.     Does my password change every year?

    When the enrolment data is refreshed, all accounts are temporarily disabled, and when a user is re-enrolled their account is enabled again. The password is not changed by this process, only the subject and class enrolments.

    Why are some of my subjects missing?

    In general, the subjects we provide are based on your timetabled classes. This information is provided to us via the MIS used by your school or college. If a subject is missing, first check that a Scholar course exists for that subject before ensuring you are registered for the course in the MIS at your school or college. We receive a weekly feed from SEEMiS, and so it can take up to 7 - 10 days for new enrolments to appear in the course list page.

    As a parent, can I have access to Scholar?

    Parents of enrolled students can have guest access to Scholar courses on application through our Contact Form. You’ll need to let us know the name of your child and the school that they attend.

    As an adult learner, can I have access to Scholar?

    We do not accept enrolments from individual learners; subscriptions are generally accepted only from organisations.

    What is the registration process?

    Our enrolment system receives updates from the school’s MIS which are imported and processed within a few days. This process creates accounts with associated classes and courses. Automated emails are sent out to notify the relevant Scholar Contacts of any changes. Student and staff accounts are long lived, in that they persist from one year to the next. In comparison, subject and class enrolments are refreshed annually, normally in June or August. This is referred to as our 'rollover period', moving from one academic year to the next. When data for a school is processed for the first time after the rollover, the Scholar Contact receives a notification email. Similarly, staff receive a notification the first time they are added to a class/course.

    Who is responsible for student and staff registration?

    There are a number of people responsible for registration with Scholar. Within a school, the MIS must be updated, and the Scholar Contact must distribute new accounts to staff and students. Within Scholar, the admin team process data files and manage the enrolment system.

    Why can I not see my students in the reporting system?

    Teachers need to be associated with Students in their timetabled class. For example, using SEEMiS, your school needs to complete the following: Assign students’ options; Set-up classes (COS); Assign teachers to classes (SETTS).

    How do I register a state school, SCIS school or FE college?

    Any state school registering for the first time will need to provide Administration Data for their school and the required fields are documented in the data specification pdf. For a school using SEEMiS, you will need to set-up your curriculum as usual in Click & Go. Your school needs to do the following to register Staff and Students: Assign Students’ options; Set-up classes (COS); Assign Teachers to classes (SETTS). Any SCIS school or FE College registering for the first time will need to provide Administration Data for their school and the required fields are documented in the data specification pdf. In order to register Staff and Students, you will need to provide a spreadsheet containing Registration Data as defined in the data specification pdf.

    How do I register students that don't have a Scottish Candidate Number?

    Students without a Scottish Candidate Number (SCN) cannot be registered in Scholar and we would suggest that they be allocated Temporary accounts for their classes until an SCN is allocated.

    How do I register a student that is studying at another school?

    This Student is identified in a MIS by the ScotXed flag denoting 'home' (01) or 'remote' (02) status. Their details will come through to us from both schools. This allows the Pupil to appear in the Class Reports of the Teacher in both schools and be able to monitor their progress. Schools should share/copy records over to the remote school within SEEMiS.

    What kind of support is available?

    Secondary practitioners are supported by our Support Officers who deliver our Professional Learning webinar programme. Short videos comprising tutorials for teachers and using Scholar for students are also available. College staff can request training, for themselves and their students, from our dedicated Scholar Consultant.

    Who provides the training?

    Our Support Officers deliver training to secondary schools for teachers. Colleges receive training through our Scholar Consultant.

    How much does the training cost?

    It is free at the point of access when part of the subscription to the Scholar service.

    How do I request a training event?

    Secondary practitioners can attend as many of our Professional Learning webinar sessions as they wish. Details are sent to school Scholar Contacts in advance of events and are advertised on our social media pages. Local Authorities can discuss any bespoke training for their LA, with our Support Officers. Colleges can request a training event through the contact form, below.

    Why is my Glow account connected to the wrong Scholar account?

    Occasionally, such as when a teacher moves school, a Glow account can remain associated with an old and unused Scholar account. If this happens, please get in touch via our Contact Form.
